A 5 x 7 Picture Frame

This is a 5x7 handmade frame built from oak. The frame was ebonized using a solution of steel wool and vinegar. Woods high in tannin such as oak, walnut and mahogany are great subjects for the dark rich ebony tones that this imparts. The frame was made using numerous hand tools, some of them include the Lie-Nielsen carcass saw for cutting precise angles, a Sterling Toolworks square, Hock marking knife, Gramercy Holdfasts and it’s all brought together with hot hide glue and Stanley 400 miter clamps. This frame was a lot of work and I'm very happy with the results.
